The Yolo County Division of Integrated Waste Management and the Cities of Davis, Woodland, Winters, and West Sacramento have collaborated with O’Reilly Auto Parts and AutoZone Auto Parts stores, as well as Pisani’s Napa Auto Parts Store in Winters, to educate Yolo County residents on the importance of used oil filter recycling by offering a Used Oil Filter Exchange Event on Saturday, November 21st.

This special event is being held to bring awareness around the need to recycle used oil filters. Do-it-yourself (DIY) oil changers in California purchase more than 20 million oil filters annually. Unfortunately, less than 10 percent of used oil filters are recycled or even disposed of properly. This means that an estimated 1.2 million gallons of oil in discarded oil filters goes to landfills each year. When used oil filters are recycled, the filters and the oil they contain can be made into new products such as construction rebar and re-refined oil.

On November 21st, DIY oil changers will receive a free oil filter (limit two per Yolo County resident) when they bring in the used for recycling to any of the O’Reilly Auto Parts and AutoZone Auto Parts stores in West Sacramento, Woodland, or Davis as well as Pisani’s Napa Auto Parts store in Winters.
