On December 10th from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the West Sacramento Police Department (WSPD) held its Annual Christmas Toy and Clothing Drive. The drive was held at the West Sacramento Walmart on Riverpoint Court. Sergeant Roger Kinney, Officer Gill, Senior Lead Officer Monterossa, Senior Lead Officer Marquez, Motor Officer Lang, Detective Duggins, and K9 Diesel were present to accept donations and interact with the community. “It’s a matter of making a positive impact in the community,” said Kinney.

Children and adults alike enjoyed petting and interacting with K9 Diesel, who is partnered and lives with Officer Dan Gill. Officers also handed out police badge stickers to kids who stopped to visit with the officers.

The WSPD has been running an annual toy drive for the last four years. This is the first year that they have partnered with the Yolo County Children’s Alliance. This year’s drive was organized by Officer Dan Gill and CSI Ruth Pagnao. The goal for the drive in 2015 is to provide gifts for 250 kids, all in West Sacramento, between the ages of one and 18 years old. In order to get a larger turnout than in previous years, the WSPD reached out to the community through social media and by directly emailing city employees.

This year, the WSPD had its most successful Toy and Clothing Drive to date. The officers received six carloads of toys, clothing, and over $800 in cash donations. On December 16th, the department held a wrapping session to wrap all of the donations for delivery to West Sacramento children in need.
