Programs at the Davis Branch Library in July

- Summer Reading Program 2017: Reading By Design: May 26 – August 19. Come for prizes, activities, and fun. Visit the library to sign up and receive a free gift! Find out more at: www.yolocounty.org.
- Read off Your Fines!: May 26 – August 19. This year, the Read Off Your Fines campaign will be held in conjunction with the Summer Reading Program. Young adults and children (ages 17 and under) will be able to deduct $1.00 from their fines for every 15 minutes spent reading a book of their choice in the library and also use those minutes toward earning incentives in the Summer Reading Program.
- July 1: Super Cool Chemistry, 1:00 p.m. Join us for melting, oozing, smoking, bubbling, foaming fun! Kids can see all the cool things that happen when elements react.
- July 8: Van Go! Building and Engineering Program, 1:00p.m. Children will design, build, test, and tinker!
- July 11: Aguas Frescas Series, 7:00 p.m. Come and drink aguas frescas (Spanish for cool waters) while creating a maker-project. July is Plant Night.
- July 13: Active Older Adult Wisdom Circle, 10:15 a.m. This group meets monthly to discuss and explore the conscious aging movement.
- July 15: Rock Painting, 1:00 p.m. Children are invited to make rock paintings to put in your garden or to leave as a surprise.
- July 15: Davis Origami Group, 1:00 p.m. Learn to fold paper into different shapes. First hour is for beginners; open to all ages and abilities.
- July 16: Yolo County Master Gardeners, 2:00 p.m. The Master Gardeners explain how to make the most of your garden.
- July 19: Financial Literacy Series: Mad City Money, 12:00 p.m. This presentation gives youths ages 14 - 22 a sense of adulthood with an income and bills to pay. The goal is to simulate the realities of approaching financial responsibility. Presented by Travis Credit Union.
- July 25: Family Night with the Bohart Museum of Entomology, 7:00 p.m. Look and learn all about anthropods in this interactive presentation.
- July 27: Crafternoon: Fiber Arts Group, 12:00 p.m. Bring your favorite craft or try one of ours! All ages are welcome.
- July 27: Davis Library Book Group, 7:00 p.m. Join us for a discussion of The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry by Rachel Joyce followed by the distribution of the group’s next book, Between the World and Me.
- July 29: Traveling Lantern Theatre Company: The Ribbles Build a Residence, 1:00 p.m. Children are invited to enjoy a fun, interactive experience and discover basic building techniques to help the Ribbles build a new home!
- July 29: Planned Parenthood Workshop, 2:00 p.m. Come and learn how to have a conversation with your child about safe, respectful and trusting relationships. Raffle prizes included!
- July 30: Family Movie, 2:00 p.m. All children and their families are invited to view a family-friendly movie (G or PG) at the library. For movie title call (530) 757-5593. Please note the screening has moved to Sundays.
- July 31: Author Visit, 7:00 p.m. Author of Lucky Broken Girl, Ruth Behar will speak to tweens and their families about coming of age.
The following ongoing programs continue in July:
- Computer Help: Tuesdays at 1:00 p.m.; Wednesdays at 3:00 p.m.; Thursdays at 1:00 p.m., Fridays at 4:00 p.m., Saturdays at 10:00 a.m. and Sundays at 2:00 p.m.
- English Conversation Groups: Tuesdays at 1:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m., Thursdays at 1:30 p.m. and Fridays at 2:00 p.m.
- Mother Goose on the Loose: Tuesdays at 10:15 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. For children ages 2-3.
- Maker Kids: This program will resume in the fall. For children ages 8-12.
- PJ Story Time: This program will resume in the fall. For children ages 3-5.
- Hug-a-Bye Baby: Wednesdays at 10:15 a.m. For children ages 0-2.
- Hora de Cuentos: Fridays at 10:30 a.m. For children ages 0-5. Sponsored by First 5 Yolo.
- Tales for Tails: Fridays at 3:00 p.m. for children ages 4-12.
- Family Fun Time: Saturdays at 11:15 a.m. All ages.
- 事 æ-¶ é-' /Chinese Story Time: Sundays at 3:00 p.m. For children ages 0-5. Sponsored by First 5 Yolo.
The following programs will be held during the month of July at the South Davis Montgomery Library, located at 1441 Danbury Street in Davis:
- Hora de Cuentos/Bilingual Story Time: Tuesdays at 5:30 p.m.
- Book Club: Third Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.
- Tinkering 101: July 1 at 11:00 a.m. This is your opportunity to tinker and have fun while creating something new.
- Duct Tape Engineering: July 8 at 11:00 a.m. Children are welcome to design their own project or to create their own art object. Materials will be provided.
- Van Go: July 15 at 11:00 a.m. Children will design, build, test, and tinker!
- Traveling Lantern Theatre Company: The Ribbles Build a Residence: July 29 at 11:00 a.m. Children are invited to enjoy a fun, interactive experience and discover basic building techniques to help build the Ribbles a new home!
NOTICES: Yolo County Library branches will be closed on July 4 in observance of Independence Day. On July 17, all Yolo County Library branches will only be open from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. due to an All Staff Meeting.
Come tinkle the ivories! An upright piano is now available for the public to play outside the main entrance of the Davis Branch. It has been made available by a loan program with the city of Davis and will remain through the summer.
