West Sac Little League Postpones Opening Day
Mar 07, 2022 12:00AM ● By By Michele TownsendWEST SACRAMENTO, CA (MPG) - March 19 is going to be a big day for baseball and softball fans in West Sacramento.
Opening Day for the West Sac Little League in 2022 was originally scheduled for March 12. However, due to changes decided on by the board, opening day has been pushed back one week.
The West Sacramento Girls Softball Board of Directors, located in Bryte, are working tirelessly to resurrect the softball league. In the past, softball was a booming and popular sporting option for the girls in the community. However, due to the lack of volunteers keeping the league operating, and later the coronavirus pandemic, West Sac Girls Softball has dwindled down into a small league.
Opening Day for softball is also March 19 and the board of directors have asked Mayor Guerrero and additional city council members to be a part of the opening ceremonies. Opening Day is a big deal for those who play ball! Everyone’s families are there, many coming from out of town.
There are hotdogs, ice cream, the National Anthem and of course, the game itself. The excitement level is high as the kids feel nervous about their first games. You can count on having a good time.
This year, both baseball and softball leagues have decided to hold off events like parades until the end of the season, when hopefully the threat of COVID-19 will be gone (or at least closer to it).
If you plan on going out to Opening Day for one league, consider going to them both! Show the kids of West Sacramento that you support them!
Please consider volunteering in whatever aspect you feel comfortable. Background checks will be required. Remember, the more that people that volunteer, the less work each person must do.
