WEST SACRAMENTO, CA (MPG) - Fire trucks galore have been posted up in the shopping center on the corner of Jefferson Blvd. and West Capitol Ave. all week. Firefighters in full gear are running in and out of the building. It appears smoke is coming out of the building as well. Have no fear. It is simply a multi-agency training exercise.

Once a month the West Sacramento Fire Dept., Davis Fire, Woodland Fire, UC Davis Fire, Cache Creek Fire and the Yolo County Fire Safe Council hold multi-agency training. Each month the training exercises focus on something different from the last. This month was about fires in a commercial business and training was held in the old Safeway building.

The smoke that has been seen coming out of the building is from smoke machines, they are not burning the building. This training is to simply keep our firefighters’ skills sharp, introduce them to new equipment and procedures, learn about how different substances ignite, burn or explode. They practice a huge variety of scenarios so that when, and if, they are faced with a similar situation, everyone knows exactly what to do, they can work as a team, and everyone goes home safely.
